If you eventually become a Class A commercial driver, you will be qualified to drive some of the heaviest and most powerful vehicles on our roads, including triple trailers, flat-beds and enormous tank vehicles. The CDL general knowledge test deals with information that is relevant to all types of commercial vehicle, but you will need to take additional written tests on top of the general knowledge exam in order to become a fully-qualified Class A driver. These are endorsement exams and in fact most commercial drivers would need to take at least one, depending on their chosen driving career. At Class A, you would need to take the Air Brake and Combination Vehicle exams at a minimum, as both of these features apply to most Class A vehicles.
