Expand your knowledge of road rules with the help of the official Oregon drivers manual and a free drivers education course!
When you’re ready to start learning to drive, get your copy of the Oregon driving manual from the DMV website, or here on ePermitTest.com. Do not be put off by the size of the manual – there is a lot to learn before you can take the final road skills test! For now, your focus should be learning about rules of the road, pavement markings, road signs and alcohol awareness. Before you can legally operate a vehicle under supervision, you must pass the 35-question Oregon permit test by demonstrating your knowledge of these subjects. The resources and information on this page are designed to help you organize your studies and get ready to take on the DMV written test for Oregon learners, in the shortest possible time.
As we mentioned above, the DMV handbook is an essential learning tool. You should read it from cover to cover at least once and refer to it as necessary throughout the remainder of your studies. Despite what the DMV suggest, you do not have to rely exclusively on the handbook while preparing for the permit test. In fact, you will probably find the whole process a lot easier and will stand a better chance of passing the exam if you don’t. The fact of the matter is that the driving manual can be a bit of a dull read. Plus, it does not dedicate much page space to explaining rules of the road and road signs in detail. To make sure your knowledge of these topics is watertight, use our Oregon driver’s education course for 2024 applicants to accompany your work with the manual. This course introduces you to the theory of driving, your responsibilities as a road user, risk on public roadways, driving in hazardous conditions and everything else you must learn to become a competent, safe motorist. Among the modules on the course are two chapters dedicated to preparing you for the DMV permit test in Oregon. These are “Rules of the Road” and “Signs, Signals & Markings”. Practically all the information you need to pass the DMV written test is contained within these sections, so take your time working through them. There will also be some relevant information in the module which deals with drug and alcohol awareness.
To qualify for a learner’s permit, you must pass the 35-question Oregon DMV test with a score of at least 28 correct permit test answers, which amounts to an 80% passing grade. Once you have achieved this and provided all necessary documentation at your local DMV office in Portland, Salem or Eugene, you can direct your attention to the other modules of our Oregon drivers ed course. The opening chapters will show you how to get acquainted with your vehicle and discuss essential vehicle control skills, like steering, acceleration and braking. Then, it’s time to start practicing your driving skills in different environments and learning to perform key driving maneuvers, in preparation for the DMV road skills test. The examiner who conducts your test will be watching to make sure you can perform maneuvers and manage different driving situations in accordance with industry standard safety procedures. Using the illustrations, tips and step-by-step guides in our drivers ed course to support your practice will help you get into good habits prior to the practical exam.
Whenever you want to test your rules of the road or road signs knowledge prior to the initial exam, try answering some realistic multiple-choice permit test questions with one of our Oregon DMV permit practice test quizzes!
